Discover an embodied path toward resilience
Hello,
I am Dr. Julia Kaplinska. I am licensed clinical psychologist. I work with adults in all phases of life and specialize in women’s mental health and helping clients who are adjusting to stressors or going through life transitions. I have extensive training and experience in working with individuals who have experienced childhood and adult trauma and specialize in somatically-integrative care.
My Approach
Most clients describe my style as warm, relational and compassionate. I use techniques back by research and integrate therapeutic approaches for a customized treatment plan. My aim is to show up authentically and non-judgmentally, to create a safe relational space, and to invite curiosity about my clients’ internal experience. This allows us to explore your habits and patterns and create opportunities for meaningful change and growth.
I believe that each person is inherently resilient. I see therapy as a tool to help you connect with your own resilience, get to know yourself deeper, learn new skills, change unhelpful habits, address unhealed wounds and grow into your potential. I think that relationships are essential for wellness and thus I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is necessary for effective psychotherapy. I work in a client-centered way, collaborating with you on an individualized treatment plan to help you reach your goals. I see us as a team, partnered up as we explore, navigate, deconstruct and create. I see you as the expert in your own experience and strive to empower you to make choices in and outside the therapy room. I bring my scientist-practitioner training, expertise in trauma-informed care, experience as a fellow human, humor and optimism into my work.
While working with me you will likely learn to slow down, to notice your habits, replace judgement with curiosity, think with more flexibility, draw useful information from your emotions, learn to notice and describe physical sensations, experience the benefits of somatic-awareness (i.e., noticing and listening to the language of your body), apply mindfulness and somatic skills for self-regulation, strengthen interpersonal skills, and discover resilience through embodiment.
Clinical Training
I have extensive training in evidence-based treatments and a variety of treatment approaches, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT)
Somatically-integrative approaches
Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD
Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)
Experiential Personal Construct Psychotherapy (EPCP)
Somatic Experiencing (SE) - I am currently entering the Advanced year of the three-year SE Practitioner training.
I am a certified yoga teacher (200 Hour YTT) and a co-developer of Recovery and Our Bodies: A Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy Group for Trauma Survivors Emphasizing Movement.
When I am not working I love spending time with my family, cooking with lots of color, practicing yoga and meditation, going to the beach, snuggling my kitty Lotus, and seeing live music with friends. Recently I began exploring Shamanic practices and reflecting on ways I can integrate this learning into my work as a clinical psychologist.
